Use Turmeric Before Ever Swallowing Another Ibuprofen Again

Millions of people, worldwide, when experiencing pain and body ache, immediately reach for drugs to ease the pain. However, according to the FDA, these pain killers are considered to be dangerous because they can cause heart attacks and strokes. No matter how viable alternative these pain killers to living in pain and discomfort are, the more you take, the greater is the risk of health complications. It is estimated that, the side effects of these over-the-counter pain relief aid cause around 16,000 deaths per year in the USA.

On the other hand, several herbs and natural ingredients are believed to have the same anti-inflammatory properties as the pain killer drugs, for example Ibuprofen. One of these natural remedies, which have been subject of several studies as an alternative to Ibuprofen, is the turmeric.

According to Shape, Maribeth Evezich, M.S., R.D., a dietitian from New York City, says that the powerful anti-oxidant does have anti-inflammatory powers.

Turmeric and curcumin, the most active constituent of the spice, have been the subject of thousands of studies. This research shows that curcumin has potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties as well as antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and immune modulating activities.”

Scientific Evidence on Turmeric as an Alternative to Ibuprofen

One study, which was conducted in Thailand in 2014, found that curcumin extract worked about as well as ibuprofen to relieve pain among people with osteoarthritis. This study included 367 primary knee osteoarthritis patients and 185 and 182 patients were randomly assigned into turmeric extracts and ibuprofen groups, respectively. The results were surprising, turmeric extract was as effective as Ibuprofen, but with fewer gastrointestinal reports.

The Alternative and Complementary Medicine Journal published a study, according to which turmeric is an effective alternative to ibuprofen for osteoarthritis. 109 patients with knee osteoarthritis were part of this study. Some of the patients were given 800 mg of Ibuprofen, while others received 2000 mg of turmeric a day for six weeks.

After 6 weeks, improvements in their performance were measured. Both groups showed improvements, but the turmeric group had slightly better performance and a higher level of satisfaction.

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties. Moreover, it is a safe and affordable ingredient.

Antioxidants are very important for fighting free radicals in our bodies. Turmeric contains a magical ingredient, called curcumin, which increases the anti-oxidant capacity of the body. Moreover, this ingredient reduces the risk of brain diseases and it is useful in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

Why Is Turmeric Still Not FDA Approved?

According to GreenMedinfo, turmeric will never receive FDA approval for its healing properties. This is because of the lack of patentability and profitability. Therefore, randomized clinical trials won’t occur if an investor isn’t  willing to risk millions of dollars upfront.
